Charles Arthur St. Clair is a Detective Inspector with the Metropolitan Police in London when first we meet him. It is Charles who responds to the crime scene on March 3, 1879, to discover a shivering and unconscious child beside the torn, decapitated body of a woman. Because the girl cannot recall her own name or details of the hideous murder, the young police detective takes her home, and thus begins a journey that will forever alter his life and the child’s–and affect the spiritual battle in the entire British Empire.
